Abenaki Rose Corn

Today we planted the Abenaki Rose at The Student Farm in Brownsville Brooklyn. These seeds were sent to Husk from a corn grower in Maine in exchange for some of our Lenape Blue Corn seeds. The Abeknaki Rose is very rare flour corn. The grower in Maine  grew it out originally from 12 seeds. It’s believed to have originated in Maine, preserved in New York and recently brought back to Maine (and now its in Brooklyn!). The Abenaki are Algonquian-speaking, like the Lenape, and are from New England. The corn may be related to Mohawk red corn.
